Chamber Music
Prerequisites for the Master of Music Chamber Music degree programme are advanced instrumental ability and highly developed artistic expression. Students apply as ensembles and complete the degree programme as a group. Individual tuition relates to playing in an ensemble. Ensembles are: string trio, string quartet, piano trio, piano quartet; other formations must be requested. The study objective is to enable students to meet the specific requirements needed to play in an ensemble at a professional level. Skills such as reciprocal listening, performance accuracy and spontaneous reaction form the fundamental basis, supplemented by sound knowledge of music theory and musicology. Graduates will be capable of analysing and evaluating chamber music literature and on the basis of such be able to develop their own personal approaches and interpretations and also independently create new musical literature.

The development and realisation of individual interpretation concepts forms a core element of the degree programme and is the object of regular guided ensemble tuition under the direction of and in discourse with the respective core module tutor. The accompanying theory seminar in the accompanying module is the constant factor that can be supplemented by additional academic content within the individual module profile. Accordingly, fundamental analysis skills acquired within the scope of the bachelor degree are consolidated to create the academic framework for reflective and self-aware artistic interpretation. The technical, medial, dramatic and academic content of the accompanying module enable acquisition of the requisite competencies to compete as a freelance musician in the cultural world.
